When and where did you start running?

It was my 50th birthday and I was 85kg and terribly unfit. I decided that I would run a marathon that year to improve the situation. Between January and the race in October I lost 12kg.

What were your personal running/competition highlights?

Berlin marathon 2017 – training had gone well and I was probably in my best-ever shape. I was both pleased, but at the same time a little frustrated with a time of 3:00:23.

What was your craziest run?

A famous run in the UK and US known as the Beer Mile. You have to run one mile (just short of 4 400m laps) with a 330ml bottle of beer at the start and then another one before every single lap. The world record for this is 4 mins and 33 seconds, which is truly amazing!

What other running goals do you have (races/results)?

I would like to get my half marathon time down to below 1:30 again if possible. One of the really frustrating things about getting older is that you slow down so much!

How did you come to the BRC?

Before we moved to Basel three years ago I did lots of on-line research, and decided that BRC was the club for me. I have been made to feel most welcome – best decision I have ever made!

What do you particularly like about the BRC?

I really like the variety of training that is on offer. There is a strong focus on technique, which is something that I have not concentrated on in the past.
Most of all I enjoy the camaraderie and great atmosphere in the training sessions.

What is your favourite competitive distance?

If I can summon up the energy to do the training, there is nothing that compares with the full marathon. That feeling at the finish line is indescribable!

What is your absolute favourite training?

I always come to training saying that I hate intervals, and why am I doing them, though once they are completed I go home thinking I have just done the best training ever.

What sport have you always wanted to try?

I’m a really keen skiier, but have never done ski touring. That’s next on the list!

What’s the next race on your schedule?

I’m hoping to make it to the start line of the Luzern half marathon. Fingers crossed!

Was waren deine persönlichen Lauf-/Wettkampfhighlights?

Was war dein verrücktestes Rennen?

Was gefällt dir besonders am BRC?

Was ist deine liebste Wettkampfdistanz?

Was ist dein absolutes Lieblingstraining?

Welche Sportart wolltest du schon immer mal ausprobieren?
